Hello→ Jun 05, 2013, 12:51 PM EDT

My name's Jonathan Price. My friends call me JP, though online I'm more often known as Dualmask or DM or Dual (even though I never wrote my online handle as two words, people insist upon breaking it up anyway, but I dgress).

What am I into? Mainly, I draw characters. Mostly women, but I have a lot of males too, I just don't draw them as often. My goal is to find a way to use and enhance what I enjoy doing most--drawing in 2D, digital coloring, animation and writing--to make a career that frees me from, or at least effectively supplements, my day job as a government employee.

I have many goals I want to accomplish, mostly revolving around the ideas for characters and stories that drift around in my head. I want to see my characters in games, comics and other mediums, and I want to retain creative control. Since I don't like to trust others, I teach myself to do anything and everything I feel might be necessary to produce the projects I want. So I draw comics, character pinups and illustrations, write prose and I'm currently teaching myself to make 2D sprites for indie games.

I'm here because I'm looking for a new, more serious, development-focused art community to be a part of. I've been a member for a long time, but my addiction to deviantART has kept me from giving this site the attention it looks like it needs. I've been chasing popularity and trying everything I can think of to become a "better" artist while failing to understand what exactly that means to me.

I'm looking to improve, but not necessarily change, the kind of art that I do. I'm impressed by digital painters and 3D modelers, but I'm not wholly interested in doing those things myself (though I do have a fleeting interest in learning to use ZBrush...I would love to see 3D printed sculpts of my characters and I'd rather learn to do it myself than pay someone else thousands to do it for me).

I'm going to upload what I think are the best examples of my work from the past year or so--anything before that won't effectlvely reflect where my skills or interests lie now. I'm open to critiques and any other kind of feedback...the harsher the better. I'm too old for my feelings to be hurt...I just want to make something of myself and my art and I'm ready and willing to put in the effort to do that.
